Naming Ceremonies
The purpose of a Naming Ceremony is to formally welcome your child into your family, your extended family, your circle of friends and your community.
A name is the first gift of love you give your child. A Naming Ceremony can be the most wonderful experience for you, your families and friends because you have chosen to publicly declare your love and commitment to your child and accept the responsibilities of parenthood. During the ceremony you acknowledge the involvement of your families and friends in the development of your child and declare your hopes for their future.
During the Naming Ceremony a ceremonial certificate is signed as a memento of the wonderful day of celebration in your child's life. Grandparents, great-grandparents and godparents/mentors/supporting adults or guardians each receive their own certificate as a memento for their participation in the day and the acknowledgement of their important role in the your child’s development.
Naming Ceremonies are non-religious ceremonies that recognise the importance of love, commitment, strong family relationships and social and cultural values in the development of your child. They are not legally binding on those who take part in it. There is no age limit of a child when choosing to have a Naming Day Ceremony.
